What is v0?
v0 is Vercel’s UI generator. Describe a UI or upload a screenshot and get React code using Tailwind and shadcn/ui, with visual quality above most peers. Deploys straight to Vercel.
It is aimed more at developers. Compared with tools like Lovable, which target non-technical users and try to produce a whole app in one go, v0 works more like a high-quality frontend drafting tool. The output is ordinary component code: you refine it through conversation, then bring it back into your own project.
A great starting point for frontend developers, but its backend capabilities are limited, it is not the right tool for a complete app, and it leans heavily on the Vercel and Next.js ecosystem.
Key features
- Text to UI: describe how a page or component should look and behave, and get runnable React code with a live preview.
- Screenshot to code: upload a design or a screenshot of a site and get UI code with a similar structure.
- Conversational iteration: keep chatting to adjust layout, colours and interactions, or target a single area.
- Component export: add generated components to your project via the command line, or just copy the code.
- Deploy to Vercel: publish the finished page in one click.
How to use
- Open the official site and sign in with a Vercel account or another method.
- Describe the interface you want, or upload a screenshot as a reference.
- Check the preview and point out what to change in chat until you are satisfied.
- Pull the code into your own project to keep developing, or deploy it directly to Vercel.
Best for
- Frontend first drafts: landing pages, dashboards and forms, generated first and polished by hand.
- Design to code: turn a screenshot into a close implementation and skip building the skeleton.
- Teams already on Next.js and shadcn/ui, where the output matches the existing stack.
- Quick demos: an interactive interface to show someone within minutes.
Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Visual quality is above most similar tools, with clean, modern defaults.
- The output is standard component code that slots easily into existing projects.
- Seamless hand-off to Vercel deployment.
Limitations
- Limited backend capabilities make it a poor fit for full data-driven apps.
- The stack is essentially fixed to React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, so it helps little with Vue or other frameworks.
- Screenshot conversion is only approximate; details still need manual work.
